jentezen-franklin-fasting-picAs we kick off this 21 day fast, there are a couple of things I want to make available to you right off the bat. FIRST – 21 Day Journal Come back to this site for daily posts to help you with this 21 Day journey. I guarantee it will become a valuable component to your daily life for the rest of this month. SECOND – Read a Book Pick up the Fasting book by Jentezen Franklin on your iBook or Kindle account or click here to get it through Amazon.com. This book will be one that you will want to read more than once. THIRD – Make the Choice Make the choice on the type of fast you are doing. Obviously if you are pregnant or there maybe other medical reasons to not fast you might want to choose to  do a non-food fast. If you are going to enter a 21 day fast you need to decide what exactly you are going to fast and then honor your commitment. You can mix and match. You can choose to do the first 3, 5 or 10 (or whatever number) days in a normal fast and the remainder as a partial fast. You can also add in non-food parts to the equation as well such as TV, facebook, video games or whatever you feel you need to disconnect from. Remember this is 21 days of prayer and fasting. The prayer part connects you to God and fasting disconnects you from the world. These two things together will produce powerful results in your life during this 21 day period.  What you choose is entirely up to you, just know that if it means something to you then it will mean something to God. Don’t forget why you are doing this. We will hit that issue tomorrow in more detail. Happy fasting! Again, there are different types of fasts and by now you have probably chosen which direction you are planning to go. But … let’s go ahead and review them anyway. There are 3 types of food fasts (and 1 non-food) 1. The Full Fast – In this fast you eat and drink nothing … no food and no water. This type of fast should not be attempted for any period of time without medical supervision. 2. The Normal Fast – In the normal fast you are permitted to drink water, but eat no food. I would suggest that regardless of what kind of fast you are doing that you at least attempt to do this a minimum of 1 day during this 21 day period. 3. The Partial Fast – This is what is commonly known as the Daniel fast. The easiest way to define this in the simplest way it is no choice food – no sweets, no alcohol, no meat. So basically water, fruits & veggies. The Ultimate Daniel Fast site seems to be a pretty good resource to answer most of the question. Please note that if the Daniel fast is too much, a looser version of the partial fast would be to just cut out certain or individual items such as coffee, alcohol, chocolate, meat, fast food, sugar or whatever else you decide on. 4. The General Fast – This is fasting non-food items (i.e. social media, internet, tv, video games, etc) or anything that sucks up your time and has become a distraction. Hope this helps you tremendously. Happy fasting! Come back tomorrow as we go a little deeper.
